One of our server hard drives is trying to fail on us. RAID has helped with it so far, but library downloads are suspended while we make some additional snapshots of the current data set.

Fujitsu SCSI. We've lost at least 3 IBM Deathstars here over the last 2 years. At least 1 of them I suspect was a thermal issue, but not sure about the other ones.

Invest in some maxtor drives!

Update: Looks like one of the drives has suffered a catastrophic failure. So the libraries will be down while we restore from backup.

Ever since I my IBM Deskstar problems began, I started buying Maxtors exclusively. I have 4 of them - haven't had any of them fail in the 4 years I've had them.

Last I heard, IBM was the last company you would ever want to be making your hard drive.

They were suffering an absurd number of failures and losing money hand over fist.

Anytime I buy a drive, when asked what brand, I say 'I'm not fussy, as long as it's NOT IBM'...
