I've published a new version today (1.30.160 on Impulse). There are no changes to the game code, it's a networking-related update for web services.

OK - Just downloaded the update and tried it out.   First, here's what I noticed.

I got to the multiplayer login screen.  I noticed that my password (it was pre-filled because I always use remember username/password) was appearing with substantially more characters than I my actual password (for instance, let's say my pw was bob123.  That should appear as ******.  Instead, I saw *****************************).  So, i unclicked  the remember username and password and entered my info from scratch and checked the remember username and password.  I logged in without issue.  After that, I logged out and went back to the MP login screen.  Again, my password was substantially more characters (this is because Stardock has started encrypting passwords).  I just clicked ok and I was logged in.

So, at least for me, the process was pretty seamless and without problem, but that certainly doesn't mean that there aren't any issues.  I'm also not aware of any super recent bans, so I'd think that if you can't log in, its probably a sign of an issue.

So, here are the only troubleshooting suggestions I can offer:

  1. Apply the update via impulse
  2. Launch Demigod
  3. Get to the login screen and uncheck the remember username/password
  4. Enter all of your info
  5. Recheck remember username/password (optional)
  6. Log in

If that fails, then:

  1. Wait 10-15 minutes and repeat steps 2-6

If that fails, then (I'm betting this next step might sort alot of people, but who knows):

  1. Try to reset your password to something else via the forums.
  2. Repeat steps 2-6 above

If that fails, then (this step doesn't work, so I'm crossing it out):

  1. Try deleting your game.prefs file (located here in windows 7 anyway:  C:\Users\YOUR USER NAME\Documents\My Games\Gas Powered Games\Demigod)
  2. Repeat steps 2-6 above

And if that fails, shoot an email to support@stardock.com and explain that you just updated to the latest version of Demigod and you can no longer log in.  If you experienced anything other than just not being able to log in, or any other weirdness, be sure to report that as well.  And be sure to provide them with your username.

Hope that helps some of you out that are having problems!

What the hell... It's also not working for me... "Invalid username/password". Deleted the games.pref - still not working. I also have the feeling that the message is comming really fast - too fast for me for connecting to a server and getting a real response.

SO WHAT THE HELL IS GOING ON?

Demigod is a good multiplayer game - with a lot of not really nice bugs. I am happy that there is still a small community for playing some games. Why creating such a s**t update and destroying more of this small community? Please tell...

What does this update anyway? Does it hack my PC or why is there not even a small explanation?

The game.prefs delete was just a thought on my part.  As that seems to fix it for no one, I'll delete that from my suggested fixes.

All I can tell is that the update adds encryption to the passwords.  It could be that some passwords aren't being properly encrypted.  I have no idea, really, but if one of you that is having a problem would try changing your password to something else on the forums and then trying to log in, that would help us know if my suggestion works or not.  Someone please give it a try and respond here.  Thanks.

I just tried it out... Still not working... But thx for idea.

So I did the following test:

I started DG in windowed mode and I opened my network connection to see how many packets have been sent. As I thought before - after entering a user/password and pressing "login" NO(!!!) packets were sent over my network connection. So it might be a software problem on client side.

pacov - do u have any idea who made this patch?

OK - Thanks for trying that out.  My only other thought would be to use all lowercase letters and numbers.  I doubt that makes a difference, but I have no idea.  Odds are the best thing to do would be to shoot an email to support@stardock.com and explain the issue.  Its just strange that some folks are having issues while others are not.  There's got to be some sort of logic involved that would explain why someone can login while someone else cannot.

_SaV_ - what language version of demigod are you using?  Maybe the issue is tied to a version?  No idea...

And no, I don't other than it Stardock.  GPG wouldn't be involved in a change to the security.  It's just obvious that its a security change based on the logs and how the pw comes up as many more characters after you enter it and save.  I'm guessing that impulsereactor performs encryption on the client side after you enter your password and then sends that SD where its likely unencrypted and used to log in.

Cant you ask them what they think about this i mean they made this update they shud know what causes this problem, and theres heapz of people with this problem arent they concerened about this?  Geezus Dont they read the forums? This sort of thing just shudnt be happening. Why wud i write an email to them when they can just read this thread? Cant they answer here?

Can't you?

Pacov isn't paid by sd and is trying to help as a friend to the community. If you want the problem fixed then send the email. If you are too lazy to do so then tough.

Hrmmm... if you are using windows firewall, try removing and re-adding it as allowable software.

on Mar 22, 2011

No... I dont use a firewall at the moment. And the windows firewall is deactivated.
